Nemo Point Island

Nostalgia · since 2006

650kmLost at sea

Before Nemo Point Island, there was 650km.com: an online survival game, in French, where nearly 500,000 registered players learned to survive on an island in their swim shorts. Welcome, old-timers.

The story

From an online game to a remake

  1. 2003Alain Truffier imagines the island’s world, its tone and its characters.
  2. 2006650km.com launches, “the adventure game in swim shorts”: an online survival game where knowledge is what keeps you alive.
  3. 2008V2: to handle the busiest nights, the game moves from PHP to Java and hosts every player on a single server. A Spanish version, 650km.es, follows.
  4. 500,000Nearly 500,000 registered players over the years, mostly in France.
  5. 2026Studio Dekronia, in Montréal, is making Nemo Point Island, the remake of 650km, for PC.

The event of the month

The Ruins: the date nobody missed

The Ruins and the Omphalos maze, artwork from the June 2008 newsletter

Once a month, for one or two weeks, the Ruins opened their doors. Every survivor rushed in at the same time, and it was THE date not to miss.

“Prepare well before you go in, and above all… stay on your guard!”650km newsletter, June 2008 (translated)
  • A dungeon, room after roomDifferent scenarios, exclusive rooms, dead ends… and the “leave the ruins” action to get out in time.
  • 60% energy to get inGetting in cost 60% of your energy. Once inside, you lost no more. Fell into a coma? Back to camp.
  • Treasures and fangsPlants, items, unseen books, quests, rare armour and weapons… and sometimes a black panther or a bear around the corner.
  • Every island had its ruinsOmphalos on Inaho, the Karaho labyrinth, the Mokona dungeons, and the archipelago’s last surface dungeon, on Melanah.

The nights the servers shook

Every time they opened, all the players logged in at once. To handle those peaks, 650km left its 2006 PHP server for a Java (Tomcat) V2 able to host every player on a single server. And it held.

In Nemo Point Island, the roguelike Ruins mode is its direct heir.
